CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

ARCTIS stands for sustainability
and for innovative steps
towards climate neutrality.

ARCTIS is committed to taking concrete and innovative steps towards climate neutrality for us and our customers. The focus is on reducing the ecological footprint through recycling, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility.

Recycling

Cardboard & film return

We collect your empty cardboard boxes again when they are delivered by our own trucks. Around 400 tons of cardboard are returned to the recycling loop every year.

We also take back and recycle around 25 tons of packaging film bags from our customers each year in this way.

Our
deep-freeze warehouse

First in first out. Row upon row, level upon level, we store our frozen baked goods on over 3,800 pallet spaces. This saves space and ensures a clean flow of poducts.

In a deep-freeze warehouse, it is important to keep the air space to be cooled as small as possible. Because air heats up quickly, it has to be cooled at a high cost and with losses. Thanks to the compact storage of frozen products, we can significantly reduce the energy required for refrigeration.

Modern refrigeration technology

When storing and retrieving frozen products, warm and humid air repeatedly enters the deep-freeze warehouse.
The warm and humid air settles on the cold-generating evaporators of the refrigeration system and ices them up. Conventional systems use electricity to defrost this ice. We, on the other hand, use the lost heat from the refrigeration system to heat water.

This warm water is led into the evaporators to melt the ice. A nice side effect: the excess hot water is used to ensure that the floor in the ARCTIS offices is always warm when required. Since the new refrigeration system was installed in 2020, ARCTIS has been able to save more than 30% of its energy demands per year.

Quiet & efficient
Transport cooling

The freezer units of the ARCTIS trucks are powered by an electric motor. The energy required for this is provided by a rechargeable battery.

A generator, connected to the drive axle, supplies the energy for the battery. This reduces diesel consumption by 5 to 8 liters per operating hour.

With the electric freezer unit, you, your customers, neighbors and the truck driver benefit from significantly less noise and environmental pollution.

Renewable energy

During the construction of the new ARCTIS building, the entire
hall roof was equipped with a photovoltaic system.

It provides approximately 240,000 kWh of electrical energy per year. This corresponds to around 100 tons of CO2 savings per year. (Source: Federal Environment Agency, 434g/kWh, as of 2022)
